Gum RecessionGum recession is a loss of gum tissue resulting in exposure to the roots of the teeth. A common problem in adults over the age of 40, but may also occur in teens. Retraction of the gums is not always due to disease, but in many cases is due to very aggressive tooth brushing. Gum recession is usually painless until it is too late. Regular check-ups are vital to assess whether the gum recession is due to gum disease and decay, or aggressive tooth brushing. The correct advice and treatment will cease further recession. |
